We’ve gotta tell you about PR’s premiere coworking space: Piloto 151
A Hispanic Heritage Month Spotlight
Quick aside: It’s worth underlining the contested and complicated history of nomenclature around “Hispanic” Heritage Month: “As the nation begins its annual celebration of Latino history, culture and other achievements, it’s not too late to ask why we lump together roughly 62 million people with complex identities under a single umbrella” (NPR, 2021).
Aaaand another aside: Sofia and her team have weathered Hurricane Fiona with a tremendous amount of tenacity (and plenty of backup generators), but please read their recent article and consider ways you can support the island as they recover.
Every year, America observes National Hispanic Heritage Month (from September 15 to October 15) by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of those in our land who have roots in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. (Read more here on why these dates are significant for a diverse group of Latinos.)
We‘re combining our love of Hispanic Heritage Month with our passion for coworking by highlighting our dear coworking friends (and LExC partners) spaces: Piloto 151 in Puerto Rico.
Founders Sofia and Juan Carlos — a brother and sister born and raised in Old San Juan — share a passion for entrepreneurship and its potential to dramatically transform economic landscapes. In October of 2013, they founded Piloto 151 and became Puerto Rico’s first and premier coworking space and growth platform for entrepreneurs.
In just over nine years, they have played an active role in fostering growth and collaboration in Puerto Rico’s startup and tech community — making Piloto a home where entrepreneurs and creatives have access to virtual offices and physical workspaces that enable them to work, collaborate, and grow in an inspiring setting.
“With a partnership base with just as many leading grassroots organizations, Piloto 151 can help you network with the local landscape and continue growing. Join our community of doers and just plug and play!” — Piloto 151
Piloto 151 offers a variety of amenity-rich memberships: from cafe-style passes for individuals, to private suites for teams. Their virtual mailbox and offices packages are also seamless to set up and perfect for startups who don’t need workspace. But honestly, take a tour and you’ll probably want to book the workspace. (Who could resist these bright, playful interiors?)
“Explore the colorful neighborhood, admire the city’s colonial architecture, stroll through its cobblestone streets, and get inspired to do your best work in Puerto Rico’s first coworking space. Whether you need a desk for the day, rent a desk for the month, or work from your own private office, we’ve got a space for you.”
“Working from Puerto Rico while connected to the world never seemed easier. Try coworking at the heart of Santurce with gigabit speeds to the world. Santurce is a cultural hot spot for art, music, cuisine, fashion, hotels, technology and startups and walking distance from La Placita, coffee shops, restaurants, and bars.”
“Ideally situated in the hustle & bustle of Puerto Rico’s financial district, our Milla de Oro coworking space offers a destination your business. We’ve designed our space for teams of every size, featuring light-filled lounges, a collaborative conference room, and private offices.”
“Explore our newest coworking space in San Juan’s colorful neighborhood of Santurce. Enjoy the comfort of cozy office spaces for smaller teams with all the perks of big, open coworking spaces to connect with our community of doers.”
We’re grateful to be partnered with these powerful industry leaders. If you live in PR or plan to visit any time soon, get yourself a day pass (or month-long access) and check them out.
Honorable Mentions
We don’t work as closely alongside these spaces as we do Piloto 151, but we’re delighted to direct you to some other beautiful and thoughtfully developed Hispanic and Latino-owned coworking centers…
In Mexico: IOS Offices, with locations across Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Tijuana, Cancun, and more. Our team got to meet CEO Javier Garcia Iza at the GWA conference last week, and we deeply admire his well-varied skillset and commitment to brand integrity through growth. (They have 36 locations!?)
In Puerto Rico: The Landmark, with one (honestly!) breathtakingly gorgeous space located in San Juan. We met & attended GWA sessions alongside Fernanda Soltero, their Director of Operations, and can’t get over her team’s attention to detail in the interior design.
In Brazil: The Brain Coworking, with three locations in Brasilia. We’ve crushed on their spaces via social media for years, and have especially appreciated their commitment to biophilic design.
